The Quality Enhancement (QE) Coaches are a team of EKU faculty and professionals who are assembled to serve as QEP liaisons within the campus community and to promote a variety of teaching methods that foster the development of informed, critical and creative thinkers who communicate effectively. QE Coaches learn, use, and share information on critical and creative thinking and communication as it relates to the goals of the EKU Quality Enhancement Plan.
Goal for the QE Coaches Group:
To increase the number of EKU faculty and staff who are intentionally using critical and creative thinking instructional strategies with EKU students for the purpose of improving student learning campus-wide.
QE Coach Objectives:
- Increase awareness of the EKU QEP within the EKU community through workshops, trainings, meetings, consultations, and communications.
- Provide materials (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, pamphlets, posters) on CCT instructional strategies within the EKU community.
- Promote a shared understanding through a common vocabulary within the EKU community of how to promote student learning in relation to CCT and communication skills.

- Engaging at the grass-roots level in helping to promote a shared understanding, a common language, and innovative instructional strategies that will support the EKU QEP
- Enhancing, improving, and invigorating the teaching experience through innovative pedagogy and instructional strategies that can impact all courses
- Participating in expert training in CCT
- Developing a methodology of CCT to enhance student academic success in their department
- Building professional partnerships and camaraderie across different disciplines and divisions—enhancing a stronger sense of community
- Engaging in scholarly work and activities related to CCT
- Having the opportunity to become certified through the EKU CT Certification process
- Receiving $250 for participating as a new, first semester Coach and $500 as a returning Coach, per semester
- Participating in outside consultations related to CCT
Eligibility to become a QE Coach:
To be considered eligible for the role of EKU QE Coach, applicants must accomplish the following steps prior to submitting their application:
- Attend a CCT foundational workshop (presented by QE coaches, Nosich, etc.).
First Semester as a QE Coach:
Minimum participation includes documented evidence of all of the following:
- Incorporating CCT activities/instruction in at least one class or student learning activity (e.g., Paul and Elder model, SEE-I, Fundamental and Powerful Concepts, etc.)
- Participating in the QE Coach Mentoring process (see guidelines)
- Continuing professional development activities to promote CCT (workshops, professional learning communities, reading, discussion groups, etc.)
- Providing assistance to and/or observing "veteran" QE Coaches at various presentations and consultations
- Joining and participating in at least one QE Coach work group
- Completing and submitting documentation of CCT related activities.
Second and Subsequent Semesters as a QE Coach:
Minimum participation includes documented evidence of all of the following:
- Serving as a Mentor to incoming QE Coaches, as needed
- Joining and participating in at least one QE Coach work group
- Providing at least two substantive CCT activities per semester that include direct contact and interaction with members of the EKU faculty and staff beyond simple communication of QEP activities. Qualifying activities include workshop presentations, individual instruction on implementing CCT into courses or activities, assisting with syllabus development, and other pre-approved activities
- Assisting with development of instructional materials, as needed
- Completing and submitting documentation of CCT activities.
QE Coach Application deadline is December 1, 2009.
