The Quality Enhancement Coaches are a team of EKU faculty and professionals who are assembled to promote a variety of teaching methods to foster the development of informed critical and creative thinkers who communicate effectively.
The QE Coaches learn, use and share information on critical and creative thinking and communication as it relates to the goals of the EKU Quality Enhancement Plan. They serve as a peer resource and coach for EKU faculty and staff and will promote a common vocabulary and generally support the EKU Quality Enforcement theme: to develop informed critical and creative thinkers who communicate effectively.
The objectives of the QE Coaches group include:
- Increasing awareness of the QEP
- Providing resources
- Providing information and training
- Promoting a shared understanding of critical and creative thinking and communication activities
- Showcasing QE events and activities
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Full-time faculty and professional staff (including those on RTP) who are committed to increasing student learning through innovative critical and creative thinking and communication strategies.
Benefits for QE Coaches include:
- Engaging at the grass-roots level in helping to promote a shared understanding, common language, and innovative instructional strategies that will promote the EKU QEP
- Enhancing, improving, and invigorating the teaching experience through innovative pedagogy and instructional strategies that can impact all courses
- Developing a methodology of critical thinking to promote even higher student academic success in your department
- Building professional partnerships and camaraderie across different disciplines and divisions—enhancing a stronger sense of community
- Earning a stipend of $500 per semester for participation
- Opportunity to engage in scholarly work and activities
Minimum participation Expectations of QE Coaches include:
- Participating in professional development activities to promote the Paul-Elder model of critical thinking (workshops, professional learning communities, reading and discussion groups, etc)
- Serve as an advocate within their home departments and within the EKU community for the EKU QEP and Paul-Elder model of critical thinking
- Incorporating the Paul-Elder model in at least one class they are teaching
- Attending at least 85% of QE Coaches planning meetings (typically every other week)
- Providing at least two CT presentations and/or consultations that meet the needs of the assigned College or Department
- Completing & submitting documentation of presentations and consultations
- Assisting with development of instructional materials
- Providing mentoring, support, and guidance to incoming QE Coaches
